Prešernova hiša

Kranj's also called the City of Prešeren because Slovenia's greatest poet, Dr France Prešeren (1800-1849), lived, worked and died here.

You can visit his memorial museum, where the bedroom and barrister's office are equipped with authentic furniture. You can also see the originals and facsimiles of the poet's works, such as 'The Baptism by Savica'. Prešeren's personal archives are also on display.

The picture's showing the poet's monument done by Frančišek Smerdu and Peter Loboda in 1952.

Medieval Charm

Linhart's Square
Radovljica is a charming town on the Sava River, not far from the place where the Sava Dolinka joins the Sava Bohinjka. The town was 1st mentioned in 1510, almost 2 centuries after its Linhart's square (1343).

In the centre of old town, there's the memorial to famous Slovenian dramatist Anton Tomazh Linhart, a drinking fountain built in the memory of the town's benefactor Josipina Hocevarjeva (Yosipina Hochevaryeva), and also many lovely old houses from the 16th century, some of which turned into museums.

Visit the unique Shivec's house at 33 Linhart's square with its gallery and register office and baroque Thurn Castle that houses the museum of apiculture and a memorial exhibition dedicated to Linhart.

St Martin's

The Parish Church (Župnijska cerkev) of St Martin was built in 1905 on the site of the previous Gothic church from the 15th century. It was built following the plans of Friedrich von Schmidt, the architect of the Vienna City Hall.

Josip Vancaš designed the interior. Most of the sculptures were made by Ivan Vurnik from Radovljica whereas the frescoes were done by painter Slavko Pengov between 1932 and 1937.
