Westminster Bridge

The present bridge, opened in 1862, is in fact the 2nd on the site and replaced an earlier stone bridge opened in 1750.

It’s the oldest bridge in the central area of the River Thames.

The bridge is green just like the leather seats in the House of Commons, which is in contrast to red Lambeth Bridge (the seats in the House of Lords are red).

It's 827 ft long and 84 ft wide and joins the area around Westminster to Waterloo with County Hall and the London Eye. It’s one of London's busiest foot and road bridges.

The next bridge downstream is Hungerford Bridge and upstream is Lambeth Bridge.

Directions: Westminster and Waterloo
