The Black Tower

This 9m-high square tower was built in 1494 on a rock on Starja Hill, near the Blacksmiths' bastion. In 1599 the tower was destroyed by lightning, so that’s how it got its name.

Its glass top has recently been added.

It now houses a museum,with a small display of war related artifacts.

The White Tower

This semicircular 14m-high tower is located 60 m far from the citadel's walls, near the Graft bastion. It’s high up on the hill and you'll have to climb some 200 steps up to it.

The construction was erected between 1460-1494.

A Charming Town

The charming town of Brasov is the 2nd important in Romania.

It was 1st mentioned in a document in 1234, under the name of Corona.

This is where the 1st school with tuition in Romanian was founded (in 1495), and where the 1st book in Romanian was printed (in the 16th century).

Bran is home to a rich collection of Romanian and foreign furniture and art items from the 14th-19th centuries.

Bran Castle

This fortified medieval castle, often referred to as Dracula's Castle, was built in 1377 to protect nearby Brasov from invaders. It also served as a customs station.

The castle's rooms and towers surround an inner courtyard.

Some rooms are connected through underground passages to the inner court.

In 1920, the people of Brasov who owned the castle offered it as a gift to Queen Maria of Romania, and the castle soon became her favorite residence.

A Picturesque Village

Bran Castle

The picturesque village of Bran, situated 16 miles SW of Brasov, is mostly famous for its 14th-century castle, sitting high atop of a 200ft tall rock.

But, during the 15th and 16th centuries it was an important frontier town on the main road leading from Transylvania into Wallachia.

Bran is surrounded by wooded hills, open pastures, rivers and high mountains.
